His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Bello Muhammadu Barmo, the Emir Talatamafara, Zamfara State, is a highly respected traditional ruler. He is highly esteemed by his subjects for his wisdom and knowledge in directing the affairs of his people. Alhaji Bello belongs to the royal family of late Muhammadu Barmo, and was born in 1963 at Talata-Mafar. He had both Islamic and western education.

He graduated from the University of Maiduguri in 1993 having obtained his N.C.E. and Grade ll Teachers Certificate from the Federal College of Education, Katsina and Gusau Teachers College in 1981 and 1987 respectively.

He worked as a classroom teacher and rose to the rank of education secretary in 1996.

His Royal Highness, Alhaji (DR.) Muhammadu Bello Barmo served as private secretary to the late district head of Talata-Mafara (Sarkin Mafara) Muhammadu Barmo of blessed memory from 1981 to 1995. He was later appointed the district head of Talata-Mafara on April 27, 1996, and was crowned the Emir on July 15, 1997.

Dr. Bello has played a major role in bringing positive change to his people. He frowns at injustice and neglect of the less- privileged in his domain. He is gender sensitive, and is in the vanguard of alleviating the plight of women who are being subjected to early marriage and deprived of the opportunity to explore their potentials through good education.

Alhaji (DR.) Bello has achieved a lot in maintaining peace and unity among his people within and outside his domain as no communal clash was recorded. He is a widely- travelled and highly respected emir.

He is a Fellow of the Certified Institute of Management, and the Institute of Corporate Executives of Nigeria.

He won the 2004 Nigeria Media Links National Merit Award and the Zamfara Prestigious Award for Peace and Unity. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Public Administration by All Saints University of America (ASUA) in 2002.

His Royal Highness, (DR.) Bello Barmo has made valuable contributions to the uplift of the traditional institution in Nigeria.

He is also a known force in community development. He is an outstanding and accomplished leader, who is committed to the survival of the Nigeria project. It is in recognition of his contributions to national development in the area of community leadership that his Royal Highness, Alhaji (DR.) Bello Muhammadu Barmo is deemed worthy and conferred with the Development in Nigeria Merit Award, Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) and many other titles.

He is happily married and blessed with children.
